Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Sometimes called the "suicide disease." I searched for open-source tools to help patients. I found almost nothing.
Built and deployed the first open-source CRPS diagnostic tool. Implements the Budapest Clinical Diagnostic Criteria as a free, private, browser-based assessment.
The diagnostic problem: CRPS uses the Budapest Criteria β four symptom categories (sensory, vasomotor, sudomotor/edema, motor/trophic). No freely available implementation existed. Patients couldn't self-assess. Clinicians had no standardized digital reference.
Searched GitHub comprehensively for CRPS-specific repos. Found 4 total β all dead or academic:
β’ CRPSdx (2016) β Java diagnosis tool. Abandoned.
β’ thepainisreal (2019) β Awareness site. Abandoned.
β’ Cortical-Alpha-Modulations (2025) β Research code. Academic only.
β’ Understanding-CRPS β A single README.
Zero active tools. Zero symptom trackers. Zero diagnostic aids. Zero patient registries. For a condition affecting hundreds of thousands of people.
Began systematic mapping of the CRPS landscape β tools, people, gaps, and opportunities. Set up the research framework and opened four threads of investigation.
